How are we teaching in ways that inspire and impact, as well as instruct, in explicit, systematic ways? How are we staying close to curriculum and seeing ourselves in our instruction? It's a lot to think about and even more to live, day in, day out. This session aims to provide do-able, fail-safe strategies and offer methods of instruction that both supports research-based conditions of learning criteria and meets the need of engaging learners using strategies and methods that impact and inspire inquiry. These methods are designed to succeed, even if the teacher is new to teaching or curricula.
We’ve taught the code—now how do we help students find the rhythm? Transitioning from choppy, sound-by-sound blending to effortless reading is one of the most critical leaps in early literacy. This breakout session will focus on how educators can help students build automaticity in reading. Participants will explore how to use decodable books in different ways to not only build fluency but also incorporate vocabulary and comprehension. You’ll walk away with a toolkit of high-engagement, low-prep activities designed to build reading fluency.
